East San Jose Apartment Fire Leaves Seven Displaced

San Jose (BCN/CBS SF) -- Firefighters are investigating a fire that destroyed a two-story apartment building in East San Jose on Monday evening which left seven people displaced, a fire captain said.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 4:45 p.m. to the building at 3269 Shadow Park Place near U.S. Highway 101 and north of East Capitol Expressway, Capt. Mike Van Elgort said.

The blaze was under control around 5:50 p.m., he said.

The American Red Cross was called to assist four adults and three children displaced by the fire, according to Van Elgort.

Van Elgort said it appeared the blaze started on the roof.

Two apartments on the second floor were destroyed and the downstairs apartments sustained severe water damage in the blaze, Van Elgort said.

No injuries were reported.
