Dog From Occupy Encampment Joins Pack Hoping To Become Oakland's Mayor
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - There are currently 19 candidates vying to unseat incumbent Jean Quan as Mayor of Oakland, but one low-profile candidte wants you to consider him as an alternative to the regular political tail-wagging.
Einstein the dog who, according tho his owners, has been a regular at political rallies and Occupy Oakland events in recent years, is running to represent the 98 percent.
Einstein has thrown his collar in the ring, his leash in the pond, and his id chip in the circular file. Yes, Occupy Oakland's unofficial official non-human with personhood status has announced, on the steps of City Hall, that he will be a candidate in Oakland's mayoral race for 2014," reads a post on the Occupy Oakland website.
The pup, which appears to be a shepherd mix, even has a "Einstein for Oakland" webpage.
"I like to run. A lot! I mean A LOT! So make no mistake, I can make it all the way to the finish line," reads the tongue-in-cheek page.
His slogan: "He's a very good dog. He'll be a very good mayor."
Unlike fellow activist Zachary Runningwolf, who has run for Mayor of Berkeley, Einstein has no way to actually pawing his way onto the ballot. Dogs can't actually hold public office in Oakland.
However, the campaign is a creative way to raise the political issues of his constituents, which include: income equality, police brutality concerns, surveillance restrictions and an Oakland single-payer health care system.
