PLEASANT HILL (CBS SF) — A Lafayette man has been convicted of multiple counts of child molestation for lewd and lascivious acts on two girls in Pleasant Hill, a Contra Costa County prosecutor said Wednesday.

A jury on Monday found Antonio Maxfield, 29, guilty of two counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child aged 14 or 15 and two counts of lewd and lascivious acts against a child under 14 years old, in addition to enhancements for victimizing multiple people and for substantial sexual conduct, according to Deputy District Attorney Christine Hazlehurst.

Maxfield faces at least three years in state prison and a maximum sentence of 12 years, Hazlehurst said.

During the trial, the jury heard from two victims, who were 15 and 12 years old when they were molested, Hazlehurst said.

Jurors also heard text messages that Maxfield sent to one of the victims.

He was living with the girl’s family in Pleasant Hill at the time of the molestation, according to Hazlehurst.

Trained in massage therapy with a diploma from the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville, Maxfield offered to massage both victims, the prosecutor said.

In one incident, a massage led to him digitally penetrating a girl, while in another, he touched the girl’s genitals.

Prosecutors found that the defendant had apparently never been employed as a massage therapist.

Hazlehurst said the National Holistic Institute was “pretty appalled by what happened” and aided in the criminal investigation.

Maxfield is set to return to court in Martinez for sentencing on Sept. 19.
