Oakland Teen Charged In Shooting Death Of 21-Year Old Man

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Oakland teen has been charged with the shooting death last month of a 21-year-old man in Oakland, according to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.

Daniel Estrella, 19, is charged with murder for allegedly shooting Daniel Ellis of Oakland near the corner of 27th Avenue and International Boulevard at 7:22 p.m. July 31.

Ellis was found suffering gunshot wounds there and died at the scene, according to police.

A witness saw the murder and later identified Estrella as the shooter in a police lineup at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, according to a probable cause statement by police Officer Eric Milina.

Estrella was arrested last Wednesday evening at his home near Lake Merritt and booked into jail, Milina said.

In addition to the murder charges, Estrella was on probation and was prohibited from carrying a gun, according to prosecutors.

His first prior conviction was in June of last year and he was sentenced to probation for evading an officer, prosecutors said.

The second was in November when he was again sentenced to probation for a grand theft conviction.

He remains in Santa Rita Jail without bail, according to jail records.
