San Francisco Carjacking Suspects Toss Money, Drugs, Gun Out Window Before Evading Police
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police were searching for three men who allegedly carjacked a man on San Francisco's Van Ness Avenue before leading officers on a vehicle and foot pursuit that ended in the city's South of Market neighborhood Thursday morning, a police spokesman said.
At about 9:20 a.m., police received a report of a carjacking near the intersection of Market Street and Van Ness Avenue, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
Three male suspects held a gun up to a man's head and drove off in his red Buick sedan, Esparza said.
Officers followed the stolen vehicle to McAllister Street and Van Ness Avenue, where the suspects allegedly threw a handgun, narcotics and cash from the car. The suspects then continued through the Tenderloin toward the South of Market neighborhood, according to Esparza.
The suspect car then struck a vehicle near the intersection of Natoma and Seventh streets.
The suspect vehicle continued to Howard and Seventh streets, where the three men bailed from the car and fled on foot, Esparza said.
Police recovered the handgun and narcotics thrown from the vehicle, but did not find the discarded cash, according to Esparza.
The three suspects are described as men in their 30s wearing dark clothing and remained at large as of late Thursday morning, police said.
Neither the carjacking victim nor the driver of the vehicle struck near Natoma and Seventh streets reported any injuries, Esparza said.
