Woman Kidnapped At Gunpoint From Walnut Creek Front Yard, Driven To ATM To Withdraw Cash

WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) -- A Walnut Creek woman who was standing in her front yard at lunch time was kidnapped by a masked man and forced to withdraw money from her bank account, according to authorities.

Police received a reported at 11:55 a.m. about the robbery and kidnapping, which began when the female victim was confronted in her yard in the 400 block of Muller Road by a suspect armed with a gun.

The suspect forced the victim to drive to a Bank of America branch on Main Street in downtown Walnut Creek where she withdrew money. She then drove back to her neighborhood and was released unharmed, police said.

"Kind of sad that somebody feels like they can get away with that in broad daylight like that," Walnut Creek resident Patrick Aten told KPIX 5.

Walnut Creek police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call them at (925) 256-3518.

Investigators are also looking for possible surveillance video footage from exterior home security cameras in the area of Lakewood Road this morning, police said.
