Santa Clara Half Marathon Called Off After Changes To Race Ending At 49ers' Stadium

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) - The Santa Clara Half Marathon will not be held over unforeseen logistical issues related to the events planned ending at Levi's Stadium, according to race organizers.

"We have made the difficult decision to cancel the event due to a number of circumstances, including changes that we were required to make with our agreement with the 49ers, and the development of their new 4.9K Stadium Run and Obstacle Challenge," reads an email from the event's operations department.

The website for the event, scheduled for December 14th, had already been pulled down as of Wednesday, save for a notice indicating the event is off.

On Yelp, runners said they had already begun sending in request for refunds after rumors that the planned finish on the field at Levi's had been moved to the parking lot. The email did not provide specifics on what issues forced the cancellation.

"There are numerous factors that would make it difficult for us to provide the unique experience that you would expect from us on race day," read the email. "We apologize for this inconvenience and we'll begin sending refunds to all participants right away. Please allow up to 6 – 8 weeks for us to process and mail out all refund payments."
