While Watching Giants V. Cardinals, Don't Forget To Hate Matt Holliday

It may have been a few years and a World Series championship in the past but the ire for Cardinals Matt Holliday is still fresh.

In case you don't hold a grudge like I do, here is the story. It is game 2 of the NLCS in San Francisco. The Giants dropped game one to the visiting Cardinals and had Vogelsong on the mound for game two. While trying to turn a double play in the first inning Giants Marco Scutaro was barreled over by Cardinals Matt Holliday. Trying to break up a double play is pretty standard in baseball but sliding late with your arms raised and completely taking out the infielder is not. The play was dirty. No question at that.

Manager and trainers rushed out as Scutaro writhed in pain after the hit. Eventually, Marco got up and dusted himself off and became part of the biggest offensive surge of the game in the four-run fourth inning. Scutaro left in the game with a hip injury from the collision but the Giants prevailed 7-1.

In yet another example of why God is a Giants fan, Scutaro's fourth inning hit included an error from Holliday in the outfield that allowed Scutaro to advance to second and a run to score.

The incident may have become a rallying cry for the Giants that led to the World Series but I, for one, am still mad.

Go Giants!
