Warriors' Release More Details Of 'Troublesome' Arena Development In San Francisco's Mission Bay

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— The Golden State Warriors and Salesforce still haven't closed their deal for the land the team needs to build its arena in San Francisco's Mission Bay, but the team still plans to open the new building within four years.

The Warriors are essentially in escrow with Salesforce for the purchase of the land they need to build the new arena. On Wednesday, the team laid out more details of their development plan at a tip-off lunch in San Francisco.

The team's players, coaches and top brass appeared at a San Francisco hotel for a season-opening luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.

David Carlock, project manager for the Warriors Mission Bay arena, told KCBS the team "controls" the 11-acre parcel along Third Street now, and while the deal to buy the land from Salesforce is signed, it hasn't closed yet and the sale price remains a secret.

Carlock told the assembled business leaders the team's move into the City has been unusually complicated.

"I've been fortunate to work on a number of arena projects around the world. They're all my children. This one is a particularly troublesome child in some respects," Carlock said.

But now, he says, it's all systems go, and he expects the first shovel in the ground within two years, and the arena open in time for the 2018-2019 season.

Chamber president and CEO Bob Linscheid said the 18,000 seat arena will fill a glaring gap in the City's venue portfolio.

"This venue will be iconic, it will be unique. It will host some major events that San Francisco has never been able to host before."
