Gov. Jerry Brown Opens Up Spending In Campaign's Final Month, Neel Kashkari Down To $840K
SACRAMENTO (CBS / AP) -- Gov. Jerry Brown reports spending $13.5 million this month to support two measures on the November ballot.
The Democratic governor reported the spending Thursday from his re-election account and a separate ballot measure committee. Proposition 1 authorizes $7.5 billion for water projects while Proposition 2 would modify the state's rainy day fund.
Brown has $27 million left in the two accounts.
His Republican challenger, Neel Kashkari, reports having just $840,000 left. He has given $3 million of his own money to his campaign, out of $6.2 million spent.
In the race for schools superintendent, incumbent Tom Torlakson and Marshall Tuck each have spent more than $2 million but are drawing big outside spending. A group spent $4.5 million for Tuck this month, while unions previously spent $2.1 million for Torlakson.
