SFO-Bound Jet From Washington, DC Area Forced To Make Emergency Landing After Tire Blows Out
DULLES, Va. (KPIX 5) -- A plane bound for San Francisco International Airport (SFO) from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) was forced to turn around and make an emergency landing Monday night.
According to officials, United Airlines Flight 1564 took off from Dulles around 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
Once the flight was airborne, the pilot reported a mechanical issue.
Officials said the Boeing 757 was able to return to the airport and land safely, but could not taxi back to the gate, according to an airport spokesperson. The plane had to be towed off the runway.
Rob Yingling, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, told WNEW Radio in Washington, DC that they found a blown tire on the left main landing gear during an inspection of the plane. The cause of the blown tire has not yet been determined.
Passengers were shuttled back to the terminal to be rebooked on other flights. No injuries were reported.
