Residual Delays And Packed BART Trains After Small Fire Reported Near Embarcadero Station In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Commuters can expect residual delays on Bay Area Rapid Transit, after a small trackside fire was reported Wednesday morning near the Embarcadero station in San Francisco.

Earlier, there were major delays, with one train headed to San Francisco returning back to the West Oakland station.

San Francisco Chronicle reporter Demian Bulwa was on that train, as it was stuck somewhere in the Transbay Tube.  His train eventually made it back to Oakland, after BART opened up one track for trains to travel into and out of San Francisco.

Because trains were holding in place, there are plenty of crowded platforms throughout the BART system, and delays are expected to continue for some time.  No word yet from BART as to what may have caused the fire.
