Harbaugh Dodges Questions About His Future As The 49ers Head Coach

Rumors have been flying as to the fate of 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, and the future looks bleak.

On Sunday night, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported that Harbaugh would be leaving San Francisco "within 24-48 hours after the regular season ends" following news that he had several offers on the table, including a $48 million, six-year contract to coach at his alma mater, the University of Michigan.

Still, he avoided addressing the mounting rumors and reports in today's press conference, saying, "I've not participated in the speculation, the unnamed sources, or the rumors."

"I'd ask you to go back and ask Jay Glazer for his source and more clarification," he continued. "I haven't participated in the speculation and I don't intend to now."

Despite another year left on Harbaugh's contract in San Francisco, it's a mantra he has repeated since rumors of unrest within the 49ers camp began. Comments and questions about his imminent departure in today's conference were met with dodging, sweeping statements and vague denials.

Harbaugh ducked a question about whether or not he has had a conversation with the 49ers about the offer from Michigan, saying only that he avoids discussing speculation.

When asked if this week's upcoming game on Sunday against the Cardinals would be his final match with the Niners, he replied, "What will happen will happen and what won't happen won't happen. But like the players, like the coaches, we're dedicated to finishing our job."

It looks like we won't be able to verify anything about Harbaugh's future with the team until the 49ers release a statement. "The high road is the only one I know," he said in regards to his refusal to address rumors. "I'll stay on that one."
