1 Man Killed, 1 Woman Hurt In West Berkeley Shooting

BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and a woman injured on Monday night in West Berkeley.

The victims were shot just before 10 p.m. in the 1900 block of San Pablo Boulevard, near Hearst Avenue, Officer Jennifer Coates told KCBS.

"It doesn't appear that this is a random event but we are trying to talk to anybody that may have been there or seen something just to try and give us an idea of what exactly occurred and what kind of confrontation there may have been," she said.

The shooting happened in a parking lot behind Everett & Jones Barbecue and next to the 99 Cents Only store.

Police blocked off San Pablo Boulvard during the investigation.

The male victim died and Coates did not have any information as to the condition of the injured woman.

Police will not be releasing the name of the deceased until after his family has been notified.

This was Berkeley's third homicide of the year.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call the police department's homicide detail at (510) 981-5741 or the department's non-emergency number at (510) 981-5900.
