BART Parking Fees Going Up At Many Stations; See When, Where, How Much

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Parking fees at multiple BART stations are expected to go up by 50 cents later this month, transit agency officials said.

The increase comes after an assessment of parking lot usage that is conducted every six months, agency officials said.

If a station's parking lot is filled at capacity, the daily parking fee may increase by 50 cents, according to agency officials.

Parking fees may be reduced by 50 cents at stations that are less than 95 percent full, agency officials said.

BART's parking fee policy states that passengers can be charged up to $3 a day to park at its stations, with the exception of the West Oakland station.

BART passengers are required to pay the station's listed parking fee on weekdays from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A $3 fee to park at the Fremont, Fruitvale, Lafayette, Lake Merritt, Orinda, Pittsburg/Bay Point, Pleasant Hill, Rockridge, San Leandro, Union City and Walnut Creek stations goes into effect on Jan. 20.

Also on Jan. 20, the parking fees will be raised to $2.50 at the Bay Fair station and $1.50 at the Richmond and South Hayward stations.

Effective Jan. 26, parking will cost $3 at the Ashby, Castro Valley, Colma, Dublin/Pleasanton, El Cerrito Del Norte, El Cerrito Plaza, Glen Park, MacArthur, North Berkeley, San Bruno and West Dublin/Pleasanton stations.

It will cost $7 to park at the West Oakland station and $2.50 at the South San Francisco station starting Jan. 26.

Parking fees will remain at $2 at the Millbrae station and $1 at the Concord, Hayward, North Concord and Oakland Coliseum stations.

The fees will fund programs to improve station access, rehabilitation and modernization, according to transit agency officials.
