3 San Carlos Schools Closed Due To Water Main Break

SAN CARLOS (CBS SF) -- Three San Carlos schools closed Tuesday morning because of a water main break that occurred Monday night at about 10 p.m. Service has since been restored and school will be back in session on Wednesday.

An employee at Tierra Linda Middle School said that school, along with San Carlos Learning Center and Edison Montessori School, all closed for the morning. The three schools all share the same campus at 750 Dartmouth Ave.

The principal at Carlmont High School understood that the water would be restored by mid-morning and had set up emergency bathrooms from water from the pool. When the water remained shutoff longer than expected, kids were sent home for the day.

"I like to think that this was payback for the time that school didn't get closed when there was a lot of rain going on when it was that week and we all wanted rest," said Dennis, a junior at the school.

Parents of the 2,200 students were contacted to grant permission for students to walk, bus, or drive home. This was supposed to have been their first day back after winter break.
