Barry Bonds Reportedly Tutored Alex Rodriguez In The Bay Area

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) – Barry Bonds spent last season tutoring hitters, including a handful of San Francisco Giants. Now, he has a more high profile pupil.

According to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez spent time recently in the Bay Area with the former Giants slugger.

Rodriguez posted a picture on Instagram earlier this month of himself in a batting cage with the description, "Starting the year in the cage." Some friends of Shea told him the photos were taken in San Rafael at the Future Prospects facility, where their own kids train.

The facility is owned and run by Charles Scott, a friend of Bonds and Arizona State teammate, who spent nine seasons in the minor leagues and nine more as a scout.

Shea writes that the facility has become a spot for pros to hangout at during the offseason.

Rodriguez is rehabbing from hip issues and also coming off a yearlong drug suspension. Not to mention, he turns 40 later this year.

It is not clear exactly how much A-Rod will play for the Yankees this year
