Armed Robbers Storm Tiffany's Jewelry Store At Westfield San Francisco Centre

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Armed robbers stormed a jewelry store in downtown San Francisco Wednesday evening, making off with an unknown amount of jewelry.

The takeover robbery happened at the Tiffany & Co. store at the Westfield San Francisco Centre at 5th and Market streets.

The suspects ordered everyone in the store to get on the ground, and then forced a worker to open the jewelry cases around 3 p.m., according to police Sgt. Monica MacDonald.

Police did not have video footage available of the robbery late Wednesday afternoon, MacDonald said.

John Stier, whose daughter works at Tiffany's, was at the mall following the robbery to check on her. "I just got one text that said, 'We've been robbed,'" Stier told KPIX 5.

Westfield issued a statement, saying "No one was harmed and we are working closely with the San Francisco Police Department in their investigation of the incident."

Shopper Cristina Pineda-Koehler said, "In the middle of the mall where there's a lot of people, how is that even possible?"

Police have not determined how much jewelry was taken and have not released details about the suspects.
