None Of 20 'Most Romantic' U.S. Cities Are In California

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Are you planning for valentines day? Forget the foggy skyline of San Francisco, the rolling vineyards of Napa and the white sands of Carmel. If you want real romance, you're going to have to leave the state.

Amazon just came out with its annual list of the most romantic cities in the United States and not a single California locale made the list.

But before you get too upset about our reputation, just take note that the list is based on sales data of "romance" products - everything from erotic fiction and relationship books to romantic comedies and "the sales of sexual wellness products."

CBS News reports that the rankings were based on per-capita sales in cities with at least 100,000 people, which probably explains why America's largest cities are not on the list. The lone California representative from last year's list, San Jose, dropped out of the rankings.

Here's the complete list of the most romantic cities, according to Amazon:

  1. Knoxville, Tenn.
  2. Miami, Fla.
  3. Orlando, Fla.
  4. Alexandria, Va.
  5. Vancouver, Wash.
  6. Cincinnati, Ohio
  7. Dayton, Ohio
  8. Columbia, S.C.
  9. Round Rock, Texas
  10. Murfreesboro, Tenn.
  11. Las Vegas, Nev.
  12. Pittsburgh. Pa.
  13. Everett, Wash.
  14. Broken Arrow, Okla.
  15. Springfield, Mo.
  16. Salem, Ore.
  17. Billings, Mont.
  18. Wilmington, N.C.
  19. Gainesville, Fla.
  20. Erie, Pa.
