155 Flights Cancelled At San Francisco Airport As Storm Hits
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - San Francisco airport officials say travelers should expect long delays Friday morning.
A storm and "traffic management program" caused flights delayed as long as four hours and 26 minutes, reports the Federal Aviation Administrations traffic control center.
Seventy-seven departures and 78 arrivals have been canceled, said airport duty manager Joe Walsh. Walsh said delays were about 60 to 90 minutes around midday.
The delays are occurring to both inbound and outbound flights, but Walsh said most of the delays are to arrivals.
A delay program at the airport went into effect at 9 a.m. and will be in effect until 10 p.m., Walsh said.
Lower visibility can initiate a delay program, which reduces the number of planes that can land. Fewer planes are allowed to land because the airport's runways are side-by-side and closer together than allowed under federal rules for landing under certain low visibility conditions.

Twitter users backed up reports of the long delays.
Officials at Oakland International Airport are reporting one canceled flight Friday because of the weather. An Alaska Airlines flight to Santa Rosa has been canceled, said an airport duty manager.
A spokeswoman at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport said there are no cancellations at the airport today.
"We are in good shape," said spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes.

International Airport will be landing at San Jose International Airport because of the weather conditions in San Francisco.
