MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) – A Google-owned subsidiary that makes animal-inspired robots revealed their latest creation, a small robotic dog that can stand up to all kinds of challenges.
Boston Dynamics posted video of the robot on YouTube Monday, which they have named “Spot.” The robotic dog stands up to kicks from the employees and scaling steep hills. Spot is also seen climbing up stairs and running.
According to the company, the four-legged robot is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. Spot’s head contains a sensor that helps the robot navigate and negotiate terrain.
Spot weighs 160 pounds and is considerably lighter than its predecessor, appropriately named “BigDog.”
Boston Dynamics, which began as a spinoff from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was bought by Google in late 2013.
