Cow Struck On Highway Briefly Closes Approach To Antioch Bridge
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- The California Highway Patrol reopened state Highway 160 after issuing a Sig-alert for the northbound lanes of the roadway just south of the Antioch Bridge Saturday morning due to a traffic collision involving livestock.
The first reports of a cow walking along the right hand side of the roadway came in at 4:45 a.m. A crash occurred sometime after that involving at least one vehicle, according to CHP logs.
Further details about the crash, and the cow's involvement, were not immediately available, but CHP logs indicate that the animal was "knocked" from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes at 5:14 a.m.
At 5:35 a.m., officers shut the highway down at the northbound toll plaza so that animal control and a tow truck could gain access to the scene of the crash, according to CHP logs.
The roadway was reopened at roughly 6:30 a.m, according to the CHP.
