Beloved 'Moosehead' Sawed Off Napa Eucalyptus Tree Is Returned To Mayor
NAPA (KPIX) -- After mysteriously disappearing on New Year's Day, an oft-decorated moosehead-shape deformity, which was sawed off an old eucalyptus tree near Alston Park on Dry Creek Road in Napa, was recovered.

On Monday, Napa mayor Jill Techel elicited cheers at a meeting with volunteers with this surprising announcement: "This morning, in my driveway, there was a moosehead. It was the moosehead!"
Now the central mystery remains: whodunnit?
Napa police chief Steve Potter says catching the culprits likely won't be easy. But, he noted, neither was the heist itself.
"It takes two people to lift, 'cause this thing weighs a couple hundred pounds," he said.
At present, the moosehead is still in police custody -- it's evidence, after all. But as soon as it is released restaurant owner Joe Peatman has plans to mount it over his bar.
That fate suits county supervisor Alfredo Pedroza just fine.
"Even though it's in Downtown Joe's, he'll really invite the public to make sure they will continue to interact with it," Pedroza said.
As for the tree from which the 'head' emerged? It's a goner, soon to be chopped down to make way for a 14-unit subdivision.
