A's, Zito Agree To Minor League Deal

Former A's ace Barry Zito will be returning to the Bay area on a minor league contract according to the San Francisco Chronicle.  CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says the deal has a base salary of $1 million and Zito can earn up to an additional $175,000 in incentives.

Zito was 5-11 with a 5.74 ERA in his final season with the Giants in 2013 and was not picked up by any major league team last year. He'll return to the A's, the team he won a Cy Young with in 2002.  He pitched 6 seasons for the A's from 2000-2006 going 102-63 with a 3.55 ERA before moving across the Bay to the Giants in 2007 on a seven year $126 million contract.  He never regained that type of form in San Fran, over the course of seven seasons with the Giants he was 63-80 with a 4.62 ERA.

Zito will join the team as Spring Training opens up this Thursday February 19th.
