Coca-Cola Bottle Turns 100; Kicks Off Year-Long Birthday Celebration

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The Coca-Cola bottle is celebrating its 100th birthday.

The sexy little bottle that has kissed the lips of millions around the world was born on November 16, 1915 at the Root Glass Company, in Terre Haute, Indiana. According to it's creators, the bottle's design "was so distinctive it could be recognized by touch alone and so unique that it could be identified when shattered on the ground."

Since then, the iconic bottle has been everywhere -- in movies, in art, in fashion, music and sports. In our very own AT&T Park in San Francisco, young and old alike play on an 80-foot Coca-Cola Superslide behind the left-field bleachers.

To mark the centennial milestone, The Coca-Cola Company has launched a year-long campaign that includes an advertising makeover, new music and art exhibits featuring past works from Andy Warhol, Norman Rockwell and Peter Blake.

The campaign will hit some 130 countries.

Happy Birthday! Coca-Cola Bottle Turns 100
