3-Alarm Fire In Vallejo Destroys Vacant School District Building Used By The Homeless

VALLEJO (CBS SF) – Fire investigators are looking into what may have caused a three alarm fire that destroyed a vacant school district building in Vallejo, often used as a shelter by the homeless.

Vallejo firefighters responded to the structure fire at 211 Valle Vista Street just before 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The building, formerly used by the school district as their main office, was fully engulfed.

The fire quickly went to three alarms and crews were able to get it under control around 11:00 p.m.

Some of the homeless told fire crews that there was still a homeless man and his dog inside the building, but after searching it twice, no one was found inside.

All 15 homeless displaced in the blaze have been accounted for.  One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters said police often swept the building to remove homeless people who were staying there.

Fire investigators are on the scene and there is still no word on what may have caused the blaze.
