Court Rules Gay, Single Man Can Adopt His Son After Mother Steps In As Surrogate

(CBS SF) -- A gay man whose mother stepped in to act as surrogate for his child has won the right to adopt the eight-month-old child after a court ruling in the U.K.

Anne-Marie Casson acted as the surrogate for her son, 24-year-old Kyle Casson after a female relative who had already volunteered developed medical complications, the National Post reported.

A donated egg was fertilized with Kyle's sperm, and used to impregnate Anne-Marie.

Kyle was listed as baby Miles' father, and brother, but a high court ruled the situation was "entirely lawful."

"I cried and cried. I could not believe it," Kyle said of Miles' birth.

Kyle was the first single man in the U.K. to have a child through surrogacy, and Anne-Marie was the first mother there to carry a child for one of her own.
