Oakland's 'Radical Brownies' Pick 3 Possible Names That Won't Conflict With Girl Scouts' Trademark

OAKLAND (KPIX) -- After KPIX 5's report about the Radical Brownies troop in Oakland that awards merit badges featuring a "Black Power" symbol for marching in #BlackLivesMatter movements, the Girl Scouts got involved, helping the politically-minded troop pick a more trademark friendly name.

The pint-sized protesters are now voting on three options: Radical Riveters, Radical Monarchs, or Radical Rubies.

The troop organizers posted this message on Facebook this week:

Dearest Radical Community,

We have three fierce names that have been vetted and cleared for us to pursue trademarking. We think each of them have great imagery we can use for our logo and existing artwork.

Our girls are currently voting on these names and we'd love to hear from YOU our community what your favorite name is!

Below are the choices for our new name:
1.) "Radical Riveters" (Like "Rosie the Riveter")
2.) "Radical Monarchs" (We love the idea of incorporating butterfly wings in our logo/art. Monarchs are said to be connected to ancestors and also represent freedom, we also like that it's a little more gender inclusive.)
3.) "Radical Rubies" (We also love the idea of incorporating rubies in our logo/art, and that rubies are "precious stones" as are our children!)

Although this name change came unexpectedly we love that the girls and YOU get to be part of this process!! Thank you for all the continued support!!
