A's Closer, Girlfriend Buying Tickets To Fill Stands For LGBT Pride Night

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - The Oakland A's will be hosting their first LGBT Pride night in June and the girlfriend of A's closer Sean Doolittle wants to make sure the stands are packed.

In a blog post on Friday, Eireann Dolan offered to buy tickets to the June 17th game and donate them to Bay Area Youth Center's Our Space Community for LGBTQ youth. Her passion for the cause comes from her own family life.

"Many people don't know this about me, but I have two moms. My biological mom Kathy and her partner Elise (who grew up in the Bay Area) are both die-hard A's fans as well as super gay. Like, they're so gay for each other that they've fostered a long-term loving relationship likely no different from any heterosexual loving relationships you've seen or been a part of," Dolan wrote.

Dolan said she was inspired to back the event when she read negative online comments stemming from the announcement of LGBT Pride night.

"So, A's fans; if attending a baseball game on LGBT Pride Night makes you at all uncomfortable, it is probably a good idea to sell your tickets. And I have the perfect buyer. ME!" she wrote in an open letter to A's season ticket holders.

Since then she says she's seen an outpouring of supports and has pledged to match up to $3,000 in donations. A GoFundMe account to fund the ticket buy. 144 people had already ponied up more than $7,000 toward the buy as of Tuesday afternoon.

"I've raised the amount to $10k and I hope we can make it there. The A's have already opened up THREE new seating sections (up from just one) for Pride Night to let even more people in on the fun!" she told backers on the donation page. The will be handing out pride wristbands (pictured above).
