Police Stakeout Leads To Armed Robbery Suspect's Arrest In South San Francisco

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man suspected of committing armed robbery early Sunday morning was arrested in South San Francisco Monday evening after investigators conducted a stakeout, according to police.

The incident in question occurred around 2:50 a.m. Sunday. The victim was standing outside his residence in the 600 block of Linden Avenue when he was allegedly robbed by a man with a gun, later identified as Giovanni Ruiz Avalos.

Avalos allegedly left the scene with the victim's wallet and cash, police said.

Avalos, a 20-year-old South San Francisco resident, was arrested Monday evening on suspicion of robbery, participating in a criminal street gang, carrying a gun with intent to commit a felony, and committing a felony while out on bail.

Avalos was already out on bail for two other robberies in San Mateo County. After his arrest for Sunday morning's robbery investigators served a search warrant at his residence and allegedly located evidence connecting him to the crime, police said.

The investigation involved detectives from the South San Francisco Police Department, the San Mateo County Gang Intelligence Unit and Homeland Security Investigations, according to police.
