Dog Stolen From Outside Berkeley Salon Returned To Owner After Woman Hears Story On KCBS

BERKELEY (KCBS) – A Berkeley hairstylist was reunited with his stolen dog on Thursday afternoon after a woman recognized the dog as being the same one given to her daughter.

Wynder, a Yorkie-Pomeranian mix, normally sits on its bed outside the Anton Salon on College Avenue in Berkeley's Elmwood shopping district. Sean Berry, Wynder's owner and a hairstylist at the salon, said his dog was taken around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

"Wynder is the sweetest dog ever, he lays on the sidewalk… people pet him. He looks straight into your eyes and just – he melts your heart," said Berry.

After the story was publicized on KCBS and CBSSF.com, Berry said he received some very welcome news.

"A woman was listening to your radio station and she heard the story. She looked at the picture that her daughter sent her of her new dog and compared it to the picture online and put two-and-two together and called me immediately to get the dog back to me," Berry said.

Berry said he believes Wynder was taken by the boyfriend of that daughter, who he said had gone out and taken a couple of dogs on the street.

The boyfriend claims that Wynder was abandoned by a nearby bus stop, but Berry said that was certainly not the case.  He has referred the matter to police.

Nearby business owners had been passing out flyers and asking if anybody had spotted the dog for most of Thursday.

"Now that he's here, I've cried, I've smiled, I can eat food finally.  My entire world is back to normal."

Berry said Wynder is named after his favorite curling iron.
