Sharks, Coach Todd McLellan Agree To Part Ways
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - A week after the San Jose Sharks failed to make the playoffs for just the second time this century, the team announced Monday that they were moving on from head coach Todd McLellan.
In a press release on the team website, the Sharks said the franchise leader in win and games coached mutually agreed to end their working relationship. The team also indicated that Assistant Coaches Jim Johnson and Jay Woodcroft, and Video Coordinator Brett Heimlich have been relieved of their duties.
"I want to thank Todd and his staff for their years of service to the San Jose Sharks organization," said General Manager Doug Wilson. "Sometimes a change is best for all parties involved but nothing will take away from what Todd and his staff accomplished here over the last seven seasons."
The Sharks made seven playoff appearances during McLellan's tenure, compiling a 30-32 record. Many had predicted turnover on the team after they collapsed in the first round of the playoffs last season and failed to reach the playoffs this season despite a talented veteran roster.
