10 Apple Watch Apps That Will Change The Way You Travel, Work And Exercise

(CBS SF) -- Assuming you've snagged an Apple Watch, your wrist is now a tool belt for seamlessly controlling your finances, home and health without ever reaching into your pocket.

The Apple Watch app store opened Thursday, unveiling a trove of 20 built-in apps by Apple and another 43 apps by top-name developers. Alongside the basic messages, phone, mail and calendar apps, here are 10 tools that promise convenience with a quick glance at your wrist.

1. Activity

Apple Watch's Activity app reminds you about your movement, or as often the case is, your in-movement throughout the day. A simple three-ring interface records your steps, exercise minutes and sedentary moments in real time.

2. Camera Remote

Now your iPhone camera can be controlled from your wrist and give you a live preview of what the iPhone sees before you snap a hard to reach shot.

3. Starwood Hotels & Resorts

One of the world's largest hotel companies is making the magnetic keycard a thing of the past by unlocking your door with an Apple Watch.

4. PayByPhone Parking

It's a virtual parking meter on your wrist to help you keep a eye on time, add more money and avoid those nasty parking tickets.

5. Citymapper

Apple Maps still does not have public transit directions, but until then, Citymapper gives the fastest route using bus and train information. It'll even nudge you when you're at your stop.

6. SkyGuide

Never miss a lunar eclipse again and stay on top of astronomical events with this app that even lets you tweet at the International Space Station when they're overhead.

7. Mint Personal Finance

Mint is already one of the best personal finance trackers for smartphones. Now it's coming to Apple Watch with an app that helps you track monthly spending goals by alerting you each time you make a purchase.

8. Gas Guru

Gas Guru shows gas prices with maps so you can find the cheapest gas near you in a heartbeat.

9. Find My Car Smarter Pro

The days of losing your car in a giant parking lot are gone with an app that uses Bluetooth to keep track of where you parked.

10. Honeywell Lyric

Save on your electricity bill by putting your thermostat on "Away" mode with a single tap. The app knows when you're far away from home to switch to "Out of Town" mode and even automatically adjusts the temperature in time for your return.
