Overturned Tanker Spills 6,000 Gallons Of Milk, Closing Hwy 1 In Marin County
INVERNESS (CBS SF) -- A portion of state Highway 1 in Marin County near Tomales Bay where a truck overturned and spilled thousands of gallons of milk late Sunday morning has reopened, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded to a report of an overturned tanker on state Highway 1 a mile north of Nick's Cove around 11:45 a.m., CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.
There were 6,000 gallons of milk that spilled on the roadway and 4,000 gallons that stayed in the tanker, he said.
A Sig-alert was issued at 1:10 p.m. closing Highway 1 between Clark Road and Willow Way until about 1:45 p.m., CHP officials said.
The driver of the truck was injured and transported to a hospital, Marin County fire Battalion Chief Mike Giannini said.
Giannini did not know the extent of the driver's injuries.
There were about 100 gallons of diesel that spilled from the truck, he said.
A second tanker truck was called to the scene to remove the contents of the disabled truck, according to Giannini.
