Hazardous Beach Conditions Expected Sunday Along Bay Area Coast

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A hazards statement went into effect at 8 a.m. Sunday morning for beaches facing south along the coasts of Marin and Santa Cruz counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong rip currents and a large shore break are expected to make ocean recreation potentially dangerous, weather service officials said. The hazards statement will stay in effect until Sunday evening.

Waves at the beach will be relatively small but the long period of the waves will cause very strong rip currents and a large shore break, according to weather service officials.

Stinson Beach, Twin Lakes State Beach and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk are susceptible to the dangerous conditions, weather service officials said.

The National Weather Service recommends beach visitors keep their eyes on the ocean and swim near a lifeguard.
