HAYWARD (CBS SF) — BART service was stopped in both directions between Bay Fair, Hayward and Castro Valley Wednesday afternoon, after a mylar helium balloon contacted electrical lines, creating a short-circuit that cut power to 4,000 customers including BART stations and the BART tracks.

Twitter user Mami said, “They were not playing about this BART delay.”

Meanwhile, there were major delays elsewhere on Bay Area Rapid Transit system after a deformity was discovered in the trackway between the Civic Center station and 16th Street station in San Francisco.

BART officials said that problem was discovered shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Police action caused and debris on the tracks caused trains to be halted in Lafayette earlier in the morning.
