South Bay Children's Science Camp Employee Accused Of Child Porn Possession

SARATOGA (CBS SF) – An employee of the Walden West Science Camp in Santa Clara County was arrested by authorities Thursday on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said 27-year-old Edgar Covarrubias, a resident and employee of the camp near Saratoga, was arrested as detectives served a search warrant at the camp. Authorities said they found several hundred images and videos of child pornography on Covarrubias' phone and computer.

Detectives with the sheriff's office Sexual Assault Felony (SAFE) Task Force said they arrested Covarrubias after receiving information from the Department of Homeland Security about a group of people downloading and exchanging child pornography.

Covarrubias was expected to be booked into the county's main jail. He has been an employee at the camp since 2013.

Walden West is operated by the Santa Clara County Office of Education and offers programs for children year round.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the sheriff's office SAFE Task Force by calling 408-808-4300 or emailing safetaskforce@sheriff.sccgov.org.
