3 Best Friends Excited For High School Graduation Killed In Gilroy Car Crash

GILROY (CBS SF) -- Charges are expected to be filed against the sole survivor of a car accident near Gilroy.

Three 18-year-old women, all best friends, were killed in the crash late Tuesday night.

They were looking forward to high school graduation, but their lives ended inside a mangled and banged up Mustang.

Madison Limones grew up with Yesenia Mendoza-Pina, Yolanda Jimenez, and Sara Williams.

"I didn't believe it was all of them," Limones said. "I was hoping that somehow they were still alive, because I knew every single one of them."

Friends and family stopped by the crash site all day, laying flowers and candles next to broken glass and busted car parts. Yolanda's family was too distraught to speak on camera.

"Sara was a really loving girl, she was super funny and Yolanda was super shy but she was a good time, and Yesenia was a really cool girl, I knew her in middle school," Limones said.

All three were in the back seat when the driver came up on a curve. The car slid off the road and hit the concrete drainage ditch.

The fourth victim that died has been identified as 24-year-old Joseph Vasquez-Flemate.

The driver, 23-year-old Gilroy resident, Anthony Imbronone, was the only survivor.

"There was an open container of alcohol beverage in the car, there was an odor of alcohol on the driver's person," California Highway Patrol Officer Herb Kellogg said. "There was also drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle."

Imbronone was arrested and booked on DUI and could also face vehicular manslaughter charges.

For students from Christopher High, where Sara went to school, news of the deaths came at an already tough time. On Saturday, another student Natalia Salcidom died in a one-car, non-alcohol-related crash.

"I've cried several times this morning and I'm not embarrassed about that," said Superintendent of Gilroy Unified School District Deborah Flores. "This is just overwhelming to have four students pass away in a week."
