SANTA CLARA (KPIX 5) – One week after former San Francisco 49er Ray McDonald was arrested for allegedly attacking his former fiancée and their child, court documents obtained by KPIX 5 detail what she described as a pattern of abuse.
According to the documents, McDonald’s estranged girlfriend said problems started soon after the couple got engaged in February of last year.
She accused McDonald of a pattern of “verbal abuse” and “controlling behavior” which quickly escalated into “full attacks” that happen frequently.
That behavior, she says, was on display last week. According to the paperwork, McDonald showed up at her apartment and “broke down my bedroom door by breaking the knob.” She described the former 49er as “drunk.”
The alleged attack would get even worse. While cradling the couple’s infant son in her arms, she said, “Ray cornered us and verbally attacked me and intimidated me. He then got physical with me.”
McDonald was arrested and eventually released after posting bail. Two days later, he was behind bars yet again for allegedly violating a restraining order that required him to stay away from his ex.
The documents also shed new light on McDonald’s previous domestic violence arrest, alleging that he choked, dragged and put his knee in the stomach of his then-pregnant girlfriend.
No charges were ever filed, because the victim refused to cooperate with the investigation, and McDonald claimed her injuries were the result of restraining her after she attacked him.
McDonald’s ex said she was motivated to file the restraining order because she wants to raise their son in a, “safe, consistent, healthy environment without abuse.”
