CLOVERDALE (KCBS) — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a car crash on Friday night they believe may have killed a 16-year-old Cloverdale High School student.
Investigators tell the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that the body of the girl was found Saturday morning on the banks of the Russian River just east of the Cloverdale city limits.
The California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a crash around 10:20 Friday night involving two cars driven by teenagers.
Officials now believe those vehicles may have been racing when they collided and that one of them struck the teenager, who was watching the race from the side of the road.
The CHP is looking for witnesses but one girl has come forward and said that she was next to the victim when she was hit by one of the cars.
