Firefighters Put Out 1-Alarm Blaze At San Francisco Union Street Jewelry Shop

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)-- Firefighters put out a one-alarm fire in a jewelry shop on San Francisco's Union Street early Monday morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Burke said there were no smoke alarms in the back work room of the Union Street Goldsmith where the fire apparently started, so it burned for a while before it was reported at about 2:45 a.m.

Burke said smoke filled adjacent shops and restaurants, but that the fire didn't make it past the Goldsmith.

According to Burke, firefighters made their entrance through a nearby business, La Boulange, which was smoke filled upon their arrival, but the fire was determined to be at the jewelry shop.

Goldsmith, at 1909 Union Street, intersects with Laguna.

No one was hurt and there were no evacuations. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
