SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A 63-year-old man was fatally shot by suspects allegedly armed with an AK-47 assault rifle on Third Street in San Francisco’s Bayview District on Sunday night, police said.

Based on the preliminary police investigation, it appears the victim was at the intersection of Third Street and La Salle Avenue around 10:40 p.m. Sunday when he was fatally shot.

The man was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The San Francisco medical examiner’s office has not yet released the victim’s identity.

The suspects are believed to be two males, but police said that they have not been identified or arrested.

The motive for the homicide remains under investigation.
