SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A dog bit a police officer several times and died after the officer shot it Sunday evening in the Bayview Neighborhood of San Francisco, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call at 6:08 p.m. to a home in the 1400 block of Oakdale Avenue, police said. The dog attacked the officer as the officer approached the home.

Police said the officer shot the dog to stop it from biting. The officer went to the hospital with multiple dog bites, according to police.
