SOLVED: Mystery Fireworks Light Up The Sky Over SF's Embarcadero

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Mysterious fireworks suddenly lit up the skies over the Embarcadero Sunday night setting off hundreds of tweets, texts and videos on social media. It was a huge show and its explosive thunder was heard all across the bay. Speculations ran the gamut -- the Warriors victory, sonic booms, the Dragonboat show, even a Father's Day gift from San Francisco. But as one person on Reddit said, there was "zero mention" of any scheduled fireworks show online.

The surprise fireworks were fun, but "terrifying." After all, they were so BIG -- obviously not the work of amateurs. Everyone wanted to know who set it off.

Check out this video shot by Scott Little from the Bay Bridge.

It turns out the dazzling light show was part of the "Celebration on the Bay" at the 83rd Annual Conference of Mayors in San Francisco. According to the conference agenda, the fireworks show, along with lasers, water projections and fireboats capped off an evening at the Epic Roasthouse and the Waterbar. The event featured "entertainment, thematic rickshaw rides, street performers moving along the promenade, and happenings throughout the night."

The conference began June 19 and ends Monday. It was presided over by Conference President Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and hosted by San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee. President Obama spoke before the gathering on Friday afternoon.

Mystery solved.
