UPDATE: Family Of Oakland Raiders Great Ken Stabler Confirms His Death At Age 69

Thursday afternoon, a report on TuscaloosaNews.com on the purported death of the player known as "The Snake" was amended to say the report was inadvertently published and the story was not confirmed.

The amended post stated:

Preparing to report on an unconfirmed but wide and persistent rumor that former Alabama football player Kenny Stabler had died, tuscaloosanews.com inadvertently and briefly published an incomplete story that we were preparing in the event that the story was confirmed. At this time, it is not confirmed. Unfortunately, other news outlets used social media to share the report. We regret the error and any emotional distress caused to Stabler's family, friends and fans.

Stabler was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and led the Raiders to a Super Bowl XI championship in January 1977.

After 10 seasons with the Raiders, Stabler played two seasons with the Houston Oilers and three with New Orleans Saints.

The Alabama native also starred at quarterback at the University of Alabama before being drafted by the Raiders in 1968.

Following his 15-year pro football career, Stabler was a color commentator for CBS NFL broadcasts and later a radio analyst for Alambama football games.
