China Opens Its Borders To Foreign Video Game Consoles

(KCBS) - The video game industry is about to get another shot in the arm during an already successful year.

China's government is finally opening the country up to foreign game console makers, allowing them to make and sell their consoles anywhere in China.

Up till now, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo were limited to selling their consoles in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, which has led to stifled sales given the limited access. Beijing slapped a ban on game consoles in 2000 on claims they were doing harm to the country's youth.

The Wall Street Journal reports that China's video game market is worth more than $22-billion a year.
