San Francisco Police Recover 89 Stolen Vehicles During 9-Day May Campaign

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police in San Francisco recovered 89 stolen vehicles and made 40 arrests during a nine-day concentrated enforcement period in May, during which they focused specifically on auto theft.

The department's operation utilized uniformed and plainclothes officers, according to police.

Some of the arrests were made on suspicion of grand theft auto, burglary, robbery, possession of stolen property and drug violations. Outstanding warrants were also a factor in some of the arrests, police said.

According to a statement issued by the San Francisco Police Department on Friday, multiple serial auto burglars were identified and arrested. Two additional arrests were made due to allegedly unlawful possession of firearms.
