Urine May Have Caused Light Pole To Topple Onto Car In San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A three-story tall lamp post that toppled over onto a car and nearly crushing a driver in San Francisco may have fallen due to corrosion caused by urine.

The post snapped Monday, landing on a nearby car near the intersection of Pine and Taylor Streets around 6:30 p.m.

The Public Utilities Commission believes urine played a part in the incident.

"We believe there was some contribution of dog or human urine on the base of the pole," PUC spokesman Tyrone Jue told SFGate.

Jue even suggested an alternative for people walking their pets, saying "we encourage people and dogs alike to do their business in other places, like a proper restroom, or one our fire hydrants, which are stronger."
