(CBS SF) — The Bay Area was treated to a special sunset Thursday night filled with rainbows and fiery storm clouds as an unstable air mass pushed through the region.

While nearly 1,000 lightening strikes were reported around the Bay Area, the East Bay experienced some light rain showers and clouds resembling fire balls.

Social media lit up in Oakland where many documented the eerie orange and red skies from downtown and at the A’s game.
