51-Year-Old Salinas Woman Admits Failing To Register As Sex Offender, Violating Probation

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- A 51-year-old Salinas woman has admitted to violating her probation by not registering as a sex offender while on an extended visit to Florida, Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced Friday.

Annette Banda, also known as Annette Vink, had previously been sentenced to a suspended term of five years and eight months in prison for committing four felony lewd acts and one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, prosecutors said.

Staring in 2010, Banda initiated a sexual relationship with a then 14-year-old male and continued the sexual relationship for three years, prosecutors said.

Her husband discovered texts and emails between the defendant and the victim and contacted the teen's parents, who then contacted law enforcement.

The current violation occurred when Banda failed to register as a sex offender while on an extended visit to Florida despite being advised to do so by her supervising probation officer, prosecutors said.

Banda will be sentenced on Sept. 8 and faces five years and eight months in prison.
